Santa or no Santa?

Ugh! It seems like forever since I last wrote, but so much has been taking place this year. I can't even begin to describe all the transitioning taking place with me and with my family. So I won't (smile), but every day there is something new. I know one thing that I'm looking forward to is....Christmas!!! This year is the first year where my husband and I have been able to really buy for our kids and also the first year that they are old enough to understand what presents are!!! I'm so excited! At least once a day, my son asks me about his "present". Last year, he cried while opening his gifts because he didn't know what to do and got frustrated because we kept telling him to open his gifts. I felt so bad for him. Bless his little heart. He didn't really open up until I opened up one of his presents and it was drumsticks! LOL! He loves the drums! It's also going to be great because our daughter will be able to participate as well. She's such a big girl! I'm really excited to see the different looks on her face as she opens up what "Santa" delivered to her.

You know, one thing that I thought of a lot this holiday was if my husband and I were going to teach our children about Santa Claus or that Santa was who gives our children their gifts. You know, being a believer and never really being taught about what to teach my children made it kind of confusing at first. I talked to people who felt that telling their children about Santa would confuse them later in life. I talked to people who were completely against Santa at one point and eventually lightened up a little making it a fun topic of conversation for their family. I also talked to people who felt like telling them about Santa was not a problem at all.

Well, this is the conclusion that my husband and I came to for our children...We have decided to tell our children that Christmas is about giving. It's about family. It's about the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ and that as they give unto others first, God will give unto and bless them. We have them pick one person that they want to buy something for and we purchase the gift, wrap and allow them to give the gift. We told them that God is the one who gives them their gifts, but Santa just delievers them. My husband thought that by including Santa in the mix a little bit, the holidays would be a little more fun for the kids at this age. We believe that we can still train them up knowing the biblical truths about Christmas as well.
